Please excuse the silence for the past week or so, some things are happening in my life that I may (or may not) share with you in another post at another time. I promise normal broadcasting will resume soon.
Anyone who knows me knows I love any music that has a chick and a piano. Certain albums or songs from Fiona Apple or Tori Amos have gotten me through some serious times, both good and bad. More recently, however, these old standbys just weren’t cutting it in helping me handle the enormity of my current situation. My sister recommended that I listen to Adele, so I checked out a few Youtube videos, and downloaded the album. I have to give my sister credit for this one; Adele is just what I need right now. And while the following video may not directly relate to the way I am feeling lately, some of her others do, and that’s good enough for me!
If you want to see if Adele will be your friend, go here. For her blog, tour dates, and other fun stuff, go here.
PS - I know technically this is a chick with a piano that someone else is playing, but close your eyes and pretend people! Pretend GODDAMMIT!
The next time I feel that my job is overwhelming or frustrating, I’m going to imagine that all of my coworkers are sitting on these. Including my boss. Everyone. Except me, of course, because that would be ridiculous.
How can you stay mad with that image?
I must admit I want to do dirty things with this chair…which has nothing to do with the people I work with in any way, I just think it might spice things up on the personal front. Felt I needed to make that clear.
By now most of you have probably heard of Katy Perry. If that name doesn’t ring any bells with you, chances are you’ve heard her most popular single, “I Kissed A Girl,” though you may or may not have liked it (get it?). Well, during my insanely lazy three-day weekend, I decided to give her album, One of The Boys, a shot. Upon first listen, I found myself bopping along wondering why I was being overwhelmed with this sense of deja vu. I felt like I was fifteen years old, hanging out at the roller rink, gossiping with my girlfriends about how my boyfriend was TOTALLY FLIRTING WITH STEPHANIE IN CLASS TODAY and OHMAGAW! the world is OVER!
As the album continued I sincerely felt the urge to get up and dance around my apartment while fantasizing about my So You Think You Can Dance audition. I couldn’t decide whether I liked it and was getting into it, or if maybe I had had four one glass of wine too many and Yanni would have put me in a good mood. I went with it regardless.
By the time the last few songs were playing, I still felt like I was in that roller rink dealing with heartbreak for the very first time, but there were definitely moments that I felt I could relate to Miss Katy’s plights. Sure, the lyrics are simple and maybe a little young for someone as mature as myself (Pshaw!), but there were a few songs I could see myself listening to in those self-loving (-loathing?) times when you just need THAT SONG to get you through it.
After digging a little deeper into the world of Katy Perry, I found that she’s got a pretty interesting background (she’s the daughter of two pastors!), Rolling Stones hates her, she’s my sister’s age, and she loves big dogs! I should also point out that on a video blog she totally belched, and being a proud belcher myself she immediately won herself a lot of points on the Mamba scorecard. (Also, does she look high in that video or is it me?)
I can’t tell if Katy and her album will still be on my iPod in a few months or if it will join the rest of the “It Was Catchy When It Came Out But I Overplayed It and I Never Want To Hear It Again” albums, but for now I’m down with it and I guess that’s all I can say about that.
I linked to this video above, but I’m embedding it here also because I would like to point out to all the male readers that, contrary to popular belief (and desire I’m sure), girls DO NOT HAVE PILLOW FIGHTS LIKE THIS. I’m sorry to burst all of your bulging bubbles, but facts are facts and I tell it like it is. That’s how I roll. I have no problem with fantasy however, so please enjoy:
You can become a friend of Katy’s here. If you would like to see where Katy is playing or learn more, go here. I read somewhere that her site has a free MP3 download, but I had trouble finding it and since I already had the album I didn’t look that hard, so good luck!
One last thing - If you are a devout Christian you may enjoy this article about Katy, although if you are a devout Christian you probably aren’t reading this blog and you probably have no idea who Katy Perry is.
Just sharin’ the love people, just sharin’ the love.
